Before talking about DC+ and DC-,First, we need to understand the definition of DC welding machine connections.
In China, the Base metal is used as the reference: when the Base Metal is connected to the positive terminal, it is called DC positive polarity (DC positive connection);
when the Base metal is connected to the negative terminal, it is called DC reverse polarity (DC reverse connection).
Internationally, the electrode is typically used as the reference: when the electrode is connected to the positive terminal, it is referred to as DC electrode positive (DCEP);
when the electrode is connected to the negative terminal, it is referred to as DC electrode negative (DCEN)
Following we talking is based on the international standard.
DC+ (DCEP), or straight polarity, directs most heat to the electrode for shallower penetration and higher metal deposition,
which is ideal for thin materials, non-ferrous metals, and stainless steel. The choice depends on the base metal's thickness, type, and the desired weld characteristics.
Best for: Thin metals to prevent burn-through, stainless steel, and non-ferrous materials.
Best for: Thick steel and other heavy metals.

How to choose?
For thick metals: Use DC- (DCEN) for deep penetration.
For thin metals, stainless steel, or non-ferrous metals: Use DC+ (DCEP) to avoid burning through and for a higher deposition rate.
Consult the electrode packaging: The packaging for your specific electrode will often provide the recommended polarity, amperage, and position.
Consider the arc: DCEP can be more difficult to use with some electrodes, while DCEN is often a stable and common choice for many applications.
