1. Description
D256 is a surfacing electrode made from high-manganese steel with a low-hydrogen potassium coating. It is suitable for both AC and DC welding (for AC, the no-load voltage should not be lower than 70V). For surfacing welding, it is recommended to use a small current and narrow welding passes. After welding, the red-hot material should be hammered or water-quenched to minimize cracking tendencies. The resulting surfacing metal is austenitic high manganese steel, known for its work-hardening properties, toughness, and wear resistance.
D256 is ideal for surfacing welding on various components, including:
Crushers
High manganese rails
Buckets
Bulldozers
Pre-welding Preparation: Bake the electrode at 300-350ºC for 1 hour before use.
Worn Parts Treatment: Before surfacing worn high manganese steel parts, remove the fatigue layer or treat it with water toughness. Alternatively, use a chromium manganese steel electrode (e.g., D277).
Ventilation: Due to significant yellow smoke produced during surfacing welding, ensure adequate ventilation and operate in a well-ventilated area.
